20V, 20A Monolithic Synchronous Step-Down Regulator Released

Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-kwak) announced the release of a constant frequency peak current mode synchronous step-down DC/DC converter (product name: LTC7130) equipped with ultra-low DCR current sensing and frequency synchronization functions with built-in temperature compensation.

The device's proprietary architecture provides easy calibration and the ability to directly parallelize multiple ICs for higher current capacity. This product also improves the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the current sensing signal, enabling the use of very low DC resistance power inductors to maximize efficiency in high-current applications.

These features reduce switching jitter typically found in low DCR applications and improve current limiting precision. The LTC7130's 4.5V to 20V input range supports a very wide range of applications, including most intermediate bus voltages, and is compatible with various battery types.

The integrated N-channel MOSFET can provide a high continuous load current of 20A at output voltages in the range of 0.6V to 5.5V, making it ideal for PoL applications such as high-current/low-voltage DSP/FPGA/ASIC reference designs. This product can be used in applications such as telecom/data systems/power distribution architectures/general high-power density systems.

The low 90ns minimum on-time of the LTC7130 enables the design of power supplies with high step-down ratios at high frequencies. The operating frequency can be selected in the range of 250 kHz to 770 kHz and can be synchronized with an external clock. The total differential output voltage accuracy of the LTC7130 is ±0.5% over an operating temperature range of –40°C to 125°C.

This product provides additional features such as a high-speed differential remote sensing amplifier, programmable output current limiting, output short-circuit protection with soft recovery, programmable soft start/tracking, EXTVCC for power reduction, and an error indicator for output UV/OV conditions.

The LTC7130 is available in a thermally enhanced 6.25mm × 7.5mm × 2.22mm BGA package and is offered in RoHS lead-free and SnPb (63/37) lead finishes. Grades E and I are guaranteed for an operating junction temperature range of –40°C to 125°C. Grade E products are available at $7.95 per unit in 1,000-piece quantities.
