[EDA Great Transformation ②] AI Agents are Converging...The Real Competition Ground for EDA's Big Three is 'Physics Engine'
Synopsys, Cadence, and Siemens EDA have entered a competition in 'Agentic EDA' where AI directly executes and validates design tools. Synopsys expanded beyond semiconductors by acquiring Ansys to integrate multiphysics analysis, and is raising RTL automation productivity through AgentEngineer. Cadence built four types of design agents in eight months, leading in the speed competition, and strengthened certification for TSMC and Samsung 2-nanometer processes. Siemens is supplementing the front-end of design based on strengths in sign-off areas such as Calibre and Tessent. All three companies share AI technology based on Nvidia, and the real competition is expected to be decided by 'engineering foundations beneath AI' such as physics engine accuracy, foundry certification, and customer design data.

The Optical Science and Semiconductor Workshop 2026 (OSW 2026), held from the 17th to 18th at the Suwon Convention Center, conveyed a message that in the AI era, data movement rather than computation becomes the bottleneck, and photonic integrated circuits (PIC) and advanced packaging (CPO) are emerging as core technologies to solve this. Optical interconnects utilizing silicon photonics maximize connection efficiency between GPUs, memory, and servers, now determining AI data center performance, and opinions were presented that co-design integrating electronics, optics, thermal, and packaging is essential. Ultra-high-density WDM, CPO, 3D IC, and other technologies were also emphasized as key competitiveness factors for the future, leading to the conclusion that optical technology has established itself as a foundational technology for AI infrastructure.

Han Car Research Institute Begins Full Operation of Integrated Evaluation Infrastructure for Large Electric and Hydrogen Commercial Vehicle Electric Drive Systems
The Korea Automotive Research Institute will complete an integrated evaluation infrastructure for electric drive systems used in large electric and hydrogen commercial vehicles in the Changwon National Industrial Complex in October. Comprehensive performance evaluation, the first of its kind in Korea, becomes possible with five types of core evaluation equipment ranging from component-level to complete vehicle level. The infrastructure is expected to support domestic future mobility component companies throughout the entire cycle from technology development to commercialization, and to accelerate the industry's acquisition of technological competitiveness.
